Vegan Cowboy Boots

$49.99

Women’s Vegan Cowboy Boot

I found these vegan cowboy boots on a website called veganchic.com. It’s kind of like mooshoes.com. They sell a lot of vegan shoes for men and women along with bags and everything else, the only problem is I just do not find any (except these) of the styles they sell appealing. Everyone has different definitions of “cool” but the shoes they sell on their site seem uncool to me. I do like these cowboy boots though!

What do you think– should I add this site to my Vegan Shoe Shopping Guide even though their selection is uncool? They could be right up someone else’s alley…?

A New and Updated Vegan Shoe Shopping Guide

Just in case anyone who reads this blog has not seen my article at the top of my website, I am reprinting it on my blog in case it can help someone who stumbles onto my blog. I’ve learned SO much about where to find vegan shoes online since starting my blog. I hope you find this helpful, and please feel free to email or forward this to anyone you know who is vegan or vegetarian and is having trouble finding shoes. It can be really tricky. For some weird reason, these sites will not come up just by googling vegan shoes. I had to search! With great pride, I present you my vegan shoe shopping guide. Please comment below if you have any additional info!

…………………

There are many articles and blog posts on the web written about where to find vegan shoes. Sadly, most of them are extremely outdated and incomplete, and give people the idea that there are no stylish vegan shoes to be found on the web. But there are.

Here are the best sources I have found on the web for finding vegan shoes:

Forever21.com is a fabulous resource for vegan shoes. They have really cool trendy styles, but some nice traditional classic looking basics as well.

Wantedshoes.com is also a great place to look. Most of their shoes seem to be vegan. They have a really big selection, and a lot of cool, classic styles.

Lulu’s.com has a very large vegan section on their site, but their shoes are usually highly trendy and may not be what you’re looking for.

Mooshoes.com is the main vegan shoe site in the US in my opinion. The site aggregates most of the vegan shoe lines out there, but they don’t always have the greatest selection, and I must say, the site is not pleasant to navigate.

Amazon.com is an actually an amazing resource for getting true vegan shoes made by all vegan companies at discount prices. You can either search for “vegan shoes” on the site, or alternately, search for the 3 top brand names of vegan shoe lines. By doing this, you can get these designer vegan shoes for much cheaper prices than you would find them for at mooshoes.com. Here are the links:

Cri de Coeur on amazon

OlsenHaus on amazon

Beyond Skin on amazon

Toms.com has a small vegan shoe section. Toms are great every day sneaker type shoes, but look cool too. They have even caught the eye of  The Sartorialist a couple of times now!

Urbanoutfitters, American Eagle, Old Navy.com, Delias.com, alloy.com, and Modcloth.com all frequently feature shoes of  entirely man made materials alongside shoes made with leather. I’ve found most inexpensive online retailers always have vegan shoes, since cheap shoes are usually vegan. Look for shoes under 60 dollars.

Spottedmoth.com is a small online store that I’ve found usually only carries non leather shoes and bags.

A good rule of thumb is: The cheaper the shoe (or bag), the more likely it is to be vegan.

I will keep adding to this list as I find more great places to find vegan shoes on the web. Please let me know if you have any favorite sites to find shoes and I’ll add them to my list.

Remember, as frustrating as it can seem to find shoes, vegan shoes are everywhere, but they are hidden amid masses of leather shoes. One day in the future I truly believe this will change, and vegan shoes will be the norm. Until then!!

Oh and for men a good source of dress shoes can be found on amazon from the original vegan shoe company No Harm.

A good source of wallets, dress shoes, and belts can be found at thevegancollection.com, as well as the old standby, mooshoes.com.

Please feel free to leave a comment anywhere on my blog, or contact me with your thoughts about vegan shoes!

Sincerely,

Victoria

Every shoe I feature on this blog, is a shoe I would personally wear and love to wear. So I always say the shoes are awesome, but I think these are awesome.

I had a hunch that these are called huaraches, so I did some googling and sure enough, they are:

Huaraches (singular huarache) are a type of Mexican sandal. Huaraches are pre-Columbian in origin, and are made from woven leather. The leather is traditionally hand-woven.[1] The name “Huarache” is derived from the P’urhépecha language term kwarachi. Huarache directly translates into English as sandal.

From Wikipedia.

Well, I love to find classic leather shoes in non leather versions. And to own a piece of history like huaraches is cool.

So! If you are off to a tropical vacation, or if you live in the southern hemisphere–you will need these shoes. I like both colors. The rainbow ones because they are fun, and the brown ones because they look like the original.

Floral Vegan Doc Martens

update: A reader called doc martens and informed me that these shoes are actually NOT vegan, and in fact no shoes doc martens makes at this time are vegan. Good to know, but oh no. This worries me because usually I assume if they do not list leather as a material in the materials section that the shoe is vegan. To be totally sure one must do as Shannon who commented did and call companies to confirm!

Another update from Shannon:

Ooh! I have a happy update…

I just received an email from Customer Service saying:

“At present, we do not have any vegan footwear. The Autumn/Winter 2011 collection will contain a complete line of vegan footwear. When it debuts, I will send you an email.”

So look out for Doc Marten’s 2011 collection, that’ll be a great post for your blog!

Thanks Shannon!

Is this awesome or what? Floral Doc Martens with a CANVAS upper and rubber bottom (or ousoles).

Buy here from Delias.com

Delias.com is an inexpensive clothing catalog for teens that I used to love when I was in highschool. LIke most inexpensive online retailers I’ve been finding, it’s a pretty good bet that the cheaper shoes they sell are bound to be vegan. You have to do a little clicking around through the “genuine leather uppers” and “suede” etc, but you are bound to find more than a few very cool non leather shoes. I see some great non leather boots on their site right now–feel free to browse!

This is an awesome new  source for vegan shoes. I’ll add it to my shopping guide at the top of my website!

A Wonderful and Unblogged about Source for Vegan Shoes

I wanted to share with you all another great source of vegan shoes. I thought I had written about it before but I guess not. The site is called Lulu’s, and they have a huge selection of vegan shoes. The styles are very trendy and fashion forward, but there are some great classic looking shoes on there too. For some reason, I was having trouble copying some of the styles I liked into this blog post, but feel free to check out the whole selection for yourself and tell me what you think.

I think it is wonderful that big online store’s like Lulu’s are taking a stand and reaching out to vegetarians and vegans by giving them their own separate section for vegan shoes. The times they are a’ changin.

Let me know what you think! Comment below.

How to Find Vegan Shoes on Amazon

I recently shared with you a tip for finding vegan shoes: search vegan shoes on amazon.

However, I’ve been discovering that “vegan shoes” can only take you so far on amazon. If the title or description of the shoe does not include the word “vegan shoe” then certain shoes made of all animal friendly materials will not be listed. I had to click around in the “items that look like this one” and people who viewed this one also viewd” sections to find more undiscovered vegan shoes.

Finally it seems I have hit on a great way of finding amazing vegan shoes on amazon. Simply search for the leading brands of vegan shoes and WOW, you will find more vegan shoes than you ever knew existed from looking at mooshoes.com (if that’s the site you frequented most–like I did) and for heavily discounted prices.

To make things easier for you, I’ve linked to the top brands of designer vegan shoes. Have fun!

Cri de Coeur shoes on amazon. (There are 63 shoes listed)

Beyond Skin shoes on amazon (49 shoes listed)

Olsen Haus on amazon (55 shoes listed)

Everybody needs flats–even vegans and vegetarians. So here they are. Though these might be pricier than “unintentionally vegan” flats you might be able to find in a discount store, I think it is cool to own a show from such a unique and pioneering company as Olsen Haus, a completely vegan shoe line started by Elizabeth Olsen who worked in the fashion industry for years before quitting her high profile job to start this company. Check out her website for more info on this inspiring individual.

The Coolest Vegan Desert Boots

My sister has a pair of Desert Boots which look so great, but though I looked high and low I could never find one’s made without real suede. Well, I have found a great pair through one of my favorite fashion blogs, Lulu Letty.

The original desert Boots were made by Clarks and are modeled after boots soldiers wore while trekking through the desert in World War II. They are now a preppy menswear staple but I think they look amazing on girls as well. They are the perfect every day boot to wear,  since they are made of a suede like fabric and have a thin usually rubber sole–they are almost like a moccasin–extremely comfortable too.

Well here they are, from the new-to-me online store Spotted Moth.

Well, I consider this a job well done. I have found you all a desert boot. Thank me in the comments  ; )

A Never Before Seen Site for Inexpensive Vegan Shoes, and the Debate Rages On: Does Buying Unintentional Vegan Shoes Make A Difference?

Elizabeth Olsen, passionate outspoken supporter of Veganism and founder of vegan shoe company Olsen Haus

The more you look, the more you find.

The more I’ve been searching the web for vegan shoes, the more places I find that sell vegan shoes. Unfortunately these sites do not come up immediately in google search listings! Get with the program google!

Never fear though, that’s why you have me as your guide to vegan shoes.

Tonight I have a true jackpot for you. The site Lulus.com has a vegan section and they truly have the best selection of Vegan shoes I have seen on the web. Miles better than mooshoes.com, and very inexpensive too. However there is a crucial difference between this site and mooshooes that I have been giving some thought to lately.

The shoes which I feature I have begun to call “unintentionally vegan”. This means the companies who produce them do not care in the slightest about animal rights or producing vegan shoes. They might make one “unintentionally vegan” shoe made out of all man made materials because that’s the material that worked best for it, or that’s what the factory decided to use, or it was cheapest that way, and they wanted to make an inexpensive shoe. On the other hand, when you buy from a company featured on mooshoes.com, you can be much more sure that your dollars are doing some good in the world, supporting companies that truly understand the cause and are in existence to educate people about such an important issue.

However, I think that buying “unintentionally vegan” shoes is fine. At least, you are making a stand and increasing people’s awareness that there is no need to buy shoes made out of leather. However, this topic of true vegan shoes is a very debatable issue, and I would love to hear from you. In the meantime, visit Lulus.com ‘s vegan section.

What do you think about buying “unintentionally vegan” shoe vs. shoes made by people who are committed to ONLY selling vegan shoes and promoting the cause of vegetarianism? I would love to hear your thoughts. Does it matter to you? Do you think buying “unintentionally vegan shoes” makes a difference as well?  Comment in the comments, and I will get back to you.

Hunter Boots: Ironically, Vegan

Hunter boots or Wellies as they call them in England have so much history and tradition attached to them. Skimming a wikipedia article about them, I learned that the company has been operating for over 150 years. Originally they were favored by literal hunters because the boot didn’t pull off in the mud, but they got a huge boost during WWII where the government made a huge order for men in the trenches. I read they are so popular with middle to upper class rural people that those people are known as the “green welly brigade”.

Well, they are now a fashion item. Who among us who reads an Us Weekly from time to time is not familiar with the site of Kate Moss or Sienna Miller trekking through the mud in Glastonbury wearing these boots? Also, Jcrew has begun selling them.

Kate Moss looking scary skinny

Well, luckily for us they are made totally of rubber and thus, no animal products are used in the making of this boot. There are many many colors–some very cool–to buy this boot in, but I would buy green, for brand recognition.
