About Me

Hello everyone!

I am Victoria, a 26 year old vegan person living in NYC.

Here is my face smiling down at you.

I’ve always loved animals, thanks to growing up with two dogs as nannies, and of course, I despise the way and the fact that animals are killed for meat, leather, cheese, eggs, and wool.

I think we are on the cusp of a great revolution of animal rights.  I think the quiet or not so quiet (PETA comes to mind) heroes of this movement will be in the history books soon.

I only started being so passionate about Animal Rights recently. Although in an intuitive way, I always agreed that animals had rights, it wasn’t until the comments and interactions I had on this blog inspired me to learn more, did I really understand how important and so very REAL the problem is.

This blog started as a fashion blog of sorts, showing people the best places to buy cool non leather shoes online. The most popular article on this blog is still (the recently improved and updated)  “Where to Find Cool Vegan Shoes Online”. It is great! It will tell you how to start a wardrobe of vegan shoes that doesn’t look like you’re a mountain wanderer wearing straw on your feet. (you KNOW what I’m talking about hehe).

Oh yeah, also as a result of this blog, I’m now really into health. I converted recently from vegetarian to vegan, and now I’m currently experimenting with RAW VEGANISM. Crazy.

Readers of this blog have educated and inspired me in so many different ways, and I want to continue being inspired by you all. What I means is…

Leave me a comment with your blog, your thoughts, your shop, your organization, your vegan finds–I’d SO love to hear from you. It really makes my day and totally expands my mind…..(I am a hippie deep down).

Also join me on Facebook where I often post humorous vids, share the gorgeous pictures of animal organizations you should know about and post personal photos. MyNonLeatherLife on facebook.

For even more info about me, read this interview about the state of vegan shoes with me.

Remember to comment, you little vegans and vegetarians and wannabes.

Blowing you a kiss down the world wide web,

Victoria

  2. Dear Victoria,

Hello, my name is Sea-Hyung Oh.
I am a college student studying in Korea.
I am researching about cruelty free / eco-friendly textile, and vegan fashion items, overall.
Which also happens to be my personal interest as well. (I have just recently become a vegan 3 months ago)
My friends and I are studying about vegan fashion in America
and hope to bring some of the idea back to Korea, so that there is an increased
awareness of such subject on a national level.

We have read about you on your website and were highly interested in your works and thoughts.
We are planning on visiting United States this summer in order to
fully immerse ourselves in it and to further enlighten ourselves.
Would it be possible for us to visit you for an interview and possibly
discuss a bit more about the subject?
Our plan is to visit during the months of July and August.

    Sincerely,

    Sea Oh

    • Wow, this is incredible. I would love to meet with you when you come to the States, however I have to tell you I am far from an expert on the subject and your research has probably made you far more expert than me. However, I would be interested to learn from you as well, and would love to discuss these issue with you both. I am living in New york city. Please keep me updated on your plans. Thank you so much for reaching out and contacting me. This is such an important issue and I’m so glad that people in other parts of the world are taking notice and doing something about it as well.

      • Dear Victoria,

Thank you so much for your response!
My friends and I are still struggling with class work [mid terms.. blegh.. :( ], but will most definitely keep you updated with
        what’s going on.
The 4 of us just recently became more interested in the subject, so our expertise is nowhere near what you probably think it is.. :(
We plan on trying to meet people in the vegan fashion industry, animal rights activists, people who are in the vegan culinary arts, or just simple enthusiasts, like ourselves~!
But anyways, thank you so much for your time!

    • Thanks for contacting me… The vid is great. I love the sun beams. I will try to do my next post on cri de coeur as you have got a ton of great shoes on your site that I really like.

  4. Hey there – great blog and thank you for sharing your knowledge of great vegan fashion finds. I just wanted to introduce myself and maybe see if you’d like to do a little blog writeup about us. We’re a new boutique on Vancouver Island, BC and we’re the only vegan shoe boutique on all the island! We are going to launch our online store next week. I work hard to keep all our prices fair so all people, regardless of price point, can take advantage of fashionable vegan footwear. If you’d like to talk more, please email me! Thank you:) Regan

    • thank you very much for the comment. checked out your site and i thought it looked great. really cool shoe selection. exciting. when the online shop launches let me know and i will definitely write you guys up, as i like the look of those ballet flats!! i also enjoyed your section on the leather industry. so important for people to realize. thanks for opening up this shop and getting the word out!

      • Hi Martha – thank you for your post and for checking us out! Its amazing that with the huge and beautiful selection now people still choose leather – knowing how harmful it its. We can’t convert everyone (although I do try;)) but I find that because I am approaching this in a very non-judgemental way people are actually listening. The good amount, I find, really have no clue. I include a leather-facts pamphlet with each purchase. I am definitely seeing a lot more traction!

I will be sure to touch base with you again once we get the online rolling.

Thanks so much and talk soon!
        Regan

      • Hi there! I just wanted to follow-up with you to let you know our online is finally up and running. You can find our online shop at http://www.vshoen.com or by going directly to http://vshoen.myshopify.com/

Thanks so much for helping promote us. Its only through and by good folks, such as yourself, we will gain more momentum! More and more people are starting to realize non-leather is just as beautiful and once they learn from us more about the leather industry, they are shocked. So, we are definitely finding people are waking up – so much is hidden, as you know.

If you have any questions, please let me know.
        Thanks again!
        Regan

      • Hi Regan, Finally got around to writing a little something about your boutique. Congrats on starting it. It’s wonderful and very inspiring. You go GIRL! xoxo

  6. Hi! Love your blog and it is really wonderful that you spread the word about vegan designers/boutiques. I’ve had a vegan sbop (brick and mortar and online) since 2007. We carry shoes, handbags, clothing – all from indie designers who focus on sustainablity. Would love to have you check it out – http://www.cowjonesindustrials.com/

  7. Hi!

I’m currently a DePaul University sophomore. I’m writing a trend story on vegan shoes for my journalism class. I was wondering if you would be willing to answer some questions over e-mail!

    Thanks!
    Lulu

  8. Check out “Suede Cowboy Bootie” on gojane.com — only $25 and identical to DV by Dolce Vita “Jamison”! (Running 1/2 size small.)

Also loving Marais USA Tall Chelsea Bootie, on sale everywhere (and NOT leather, as often described).

  9. Hello Victoria

I wonder if you can assist? Do you know of any image consultants/stylists UK based that are into vegan fashion? I’ve read of Ginger Burr in the US and wondered, in your global research, if there was someone if you had come across as dedicated in Europe. I’m a consultant in Qatar, and just recently opened my eye to the improved choices of vegan fashion. I would love to chat more with you too!

    • Thank you so much for the link. This site is amazing. It made me cry. Ugh. But also feel like I want to do something more. Do you know who made the site? I wish they had a “about us” page or a contact us form or something.

  10. Hi, I’ve also been a vegetarian since I was 10, and turned fully vegan just a couple of weeks ago. I’m really interested in your blog and glad you’re taking the time to find great clothes/shoes for vegans.

I have my own blog on fashion where I write about my vegan journey, I’d love for you to take a look (:
