A Great New Vegan Shoe Store on Etsy with Vintage Inspired Designs

I found an awesome vegan shoe company through a great vegan shoe blog I read called Great Green Shoes.

The author of this blog found and featured an Israeli designer’s, Roni Kantor’s, Etsy store which is filled with Vegan shoes that she makes from synthetic vegan leather, on purpose, “out of love and respect to all living beings”.

This is a picture of Roni

Roni Kantor

The shoes are all inspired by vintage shoes from various decades.

What could be better. Intentionally Vegan shoes inspired by vintage designs from a woman who followed her passion and created her own company.

So cool.

I liked her on Facebook and found that she has a whole fashion line and has been in biz since 2008!

Inspiring.

She offers free shipping worldwide and the shoes come even in my (extra large) size.

Here are my picks:

Roni Kantor Vintage inspired - ADINA high heel sandals - sunshine yellow - FREE SHIPPING
Roni Kantor Vintage inspired - ODELYA heels - sailor white and blue - FREE SHIPPING
Pretty beautiful, unique vintage styles for prices that are far more affordable than other vegan companies such as Olsen Haus and Cri de Coeur (which is not to diminish those companies’ great work producing vegan shoes).
Check out the rest here.
I willl definitely be adding this to my article Where To Find Cool Vegan Shoes Online, which you can always check out for a refresher course if needed!

A Smattering of Vegan Shoes from GoJane.com

Guys, remember the site Gojane.com?

It has a very large selection of “unintentionally vegan” shoes. Every shoe I looked at had “all manmade materials” in the description.

I wrote about Gojane.com in my article “where to find cool vegan shoes online”, but kind of forgot about it. I decided to give it a gander to see what’s new.

They have some very tacky styles, but also some diamonds in the rough, so check it out, if you feel like buying or browsing some very cheap shoes!

Here are some of my selections:

white pumps from gojane $14

These remind me of this iconic photograph

all white shoes do.

How about these awesome floral heels:

these remind me of the following BEAUTIFUL shoes:

are those real roses? How beautiful.

Rosette Side Platform heel, $27

Next,

floral chiffon wedge, $29.50

I love that print!

and finally,

These slightly trashy  shoes make me think of Barbie. and i like them.

I guess the Vegan company Melissa is kind of like the real life equivalent of Barbie shoes, since they are made out of the same material. very cool.

Bye guys!

Are Shoes Made in China Necessarily Unethical (In Your Opinion?)

Hey guys,

Thought I’d ask for some thoughts on a matter I am currently pondering.

So I am currently trying to get a line of vegan shoes made.

However, there are no more shoe factories in the US. They have all been moved overseas, and mostly to China.

China is a country known for its terrible treatment of animals, sadly. Just today, I received an email from PETA called “no one needs to die for fashion” detailing the animal abuses that take place in China. Sad.

However, do you think that this means that any shoes made in China, even if they were totally synthetic, are unethical?

What if a factory in China could make great vegan shoes that popularized the whole concept of vegan shoes?

There are also concerns about the ethical treatment of factory workers.

But let’s say I visited and found a great factory.

One, that, for example, gave jobs to women who would otherwise be forced, through lack of funds, into prostitution (something I read about in the incredible book about the horrific treatment of women worldwide Half The Sky by NIcholas Kristof and Cheryl Wu-Dunn)?

Does the fact that the factory is in China make a difference?

What do you think. I’d love to know your thoughts on this very real dilemma.

Which Irregular Choice and Poetic License Shoes are Vegan? Learn The Answers here.

Hey guys,

Have you ever heard of Irregular Choice shoes. They are shoes that are very fun and creative. They make bizarre fun styles you have never seen the like of before. I liked a bunch of their styles, so I emailed the company to find out whether any were made without leather. They replied, and I learned some of their styles (many) are vegetarian,  but unfortunately, none of the coolest ones are (in my opinion).

Like these two (not vegan).

I love those clear heels. Reminds me of Cinderella’s glass slipper.

But moving on:

Here is the total list of vegan shoes the rep kindly sent me:

Do Shoes Have Animal Based Glues in Them? No. Thankfully.

Hey guys,

I received a nice comment today wondering about how to tell whether the glues used in shoes are animal based.

I am sure we have all heard how in the old days old horses used to be sent to the glue factory. Horrors.

I had a hunch that most glues used in shoes were synthetic from inquiring at a few vegan companies and even factories, but I decided to do some further googling.

After reading up on animal glue on wikipedia, which supplied more evidence that animal glues are not all that common these days except in woodworking it seems, I came across this very helpful blog post written by someone who inquired at the vegan store Pangea.

They  said:

We have actually done quite a bit of our own independent research into adhesives, and have found that, while animal-based glues were indeed the standard in past decades, these days, the shoe industry as a whole uses synthetic adhesives almost exclusively. This is not due to ethical concerns, of course, but is the case simply because modern synthetic adhesives have become much more technically advanced than animal-based glues. In particular, animal glues are less stable than synthetics, and don’t stand up well to all weather conditions and lots of stretching, so they don’t work well for footwear. (We’ve been happy to learn that, these days, animal glues have actually been phased out of many industries, and are only commonly used for wood products and sometimes bookbinding). Hope this helps, and please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

So this is quite good news.

The blog where I found this is called Vegan Volleyballer, about Vegan athletic wear and equipment. Maybe some one out there will find it helpful. Looks good!

An Important Vegan Shoe Staple: a Loafer

Here are two more offerings from Urbanoutfitters: vegan canvas loafers.

available here for $34 in red and black

This is good work attire.

And also good hipster attire.

These remind me of the kind of shoes you would see American Apparel girls wearing .

I was going to post some American Apparel pics, but it appears non of them would be SFW. (safe for work). So in other words they are NSFW.

I Dare You to Celebrate July 4th in These

Important Update:

Guys, I have contacted Jeffrey Campbell and unfortunately these shoes are NOT vegan.

In fact, no Jeffrey Campbell shoe is vegan. They all have at least a leather lining. Even these canvas shoes have a leather lining.

Jeffrey Campbell has made a line of vegan shoes for a store in California Convert, however they are not available online and seem to be very subdued and hemp-y looking at definitely not as cool. Here is the link.

I apologize for making this mistake. It just goes to show that even if there is no leather listed in the material description of a shoe… sadly those descriptions are not thorough enough to conclude that the shoe has no leather!

Annoying much?

Sorry guys.

———

Hey guys.

Got a query for you all.

Are you rock and roll enough to rock this look?

pretty sweet, right?

Vegan American flag…stripper-ish– but why go there– platform heels.

available at urbanoutffiters here.

They are by Jeffrey Campbell, who usually makes shoes that contain leather, but these appear to not contain any and are made out of canvas.

Just to make sure, I’ve emailed Jeffrey Campbell and inquired about other vegan offerings, like I did with Vans and Keds (see a few blog posts down).

Here is some American flag fashion inspiration for y’all to get you in the mood to make this kind of a statement:

Tell me,
would you rock this look?
Or perhaps you already have or make a habit of it?
On another note,

I changed the theme of my blog. Do you like it  better? I feel it is easier to scroll through more posts, and though it looks less polished, is kind of less confusing.

I’m trying to think about where I should take this blog.

What would help all the vegans out there searching aimlessly for vegan shoes?

Is it helpful when I just post my picks of shoes I like around the web?

I’m thinking of making a video blog and youtube channel…giving away my info about vegan shoes… I’m kind of scared of youtube commenters though… but whatever.  Would that be helpful?

Personally, I love to watch videos of bloggers. But this is kind of an odd topic to videoblog about. Well, whatever…I think I’ll try to do it. At least to give an about me, etc.

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Thoughts on the State of Vegan Shoes

Guys,

Something needs to be done about vegan shoes.

The world is majorly lagging.

Everyone wants them. But hardly any are available.

Are “unintentionally vegan” shoes enough? Shoes made without leather only because synthetic stuff is cheaper? Are you content with just shopping at Forever 21 because it’s cheap, or hoping by some miracle some other shoe company made one measly shoe without leather?

No.

I’m not.

I want a big website, like Zappos, or like a Jcrew at least, with a wide excellent collection of stylish vegan shoes. Who is with me?

One stop shopping.

I also want a website that aggregates all the vegan shoes out there in the meantime. Even the unintentional vegan ones. I want it to have a grid of pictures of all the vegan shoes available in any online store here or there and the pics would link you to where they are sold. That way you could readily see all the measly options for vegan shoes there are right now.

And it would be cool if they could be filtered too by style.

Wouldn’t that be great?

Should I make that?

What do you guys think?

What are your ideas? Thoughts?

I’d love to hear in the comment section. Let’s Discuss.
